Leader of the defunct Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Front (NDPVF), Asari Dokubo, has said the Federal Government cannot afford to ignore the growing clamour for the restructuring of Nigeria.
Dokubo asserted that the only way to achieve lasting peace in the Niger Delta and all Biafra territories is the convocation a Sovereign National Conference (SNC) and a referendum supervised by the United Nations (UN).
Dokubo, who posted this his Facebook wall, denied any involvement in the planned negotiations between the Federal Government, and the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA).
According to him, he will not condemn the NDA which has been blowing up oil installations in the Niger Delta and accused President Muhammadu Buhari of waging genocide against the Ijaw people.
He alleged that Buhari was paying lip service to the alleged negotiation with the militants.
He insisted that unless a Sovereign National Conference is convoked on issues of Ijaw, Niger Delta region and Biafra territories and a referendum monitored by the UN, peace will continue to elude the affected regions.
On the government’s negotiation with militants, Asari-Dokubo said: “The public should note that I, Alhaji Mujahid Abubakar Dokubo-Asari, Alabo Edi Abali-Abala Buruburu 1 of Kalabari has not entered, directed, appointed or delegated any person or group of persons to negotiate or enter into dialogue with any President, Vice President, Governor, Minister, National Security Adviser, any committee or institution in furtherance of the Nigerian state’s pretension to the pursuance of peace in the occupied Ijaw, Niger Delta Region and the United States of Biafra(USB).
“I believe in the cause of the Ijaw Nation, Niger Delta Region and the United States of Biafra (USB).
“Therefore, anybody who has presented himself/herself claiming to be me or represent me in any manner of discussion, for any conference in furtherance of this pretentious negotiation or dialogue is a fraud and therefore should not be accorded any recognition as a person representing me, the Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Front and Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force.”
